Cut & Paste - Berlin

Hey!

So, I'm got a big insomnia today, probably because the south american Mate that I drunk some hours ago, haha, but, anyway, this gives me the perfect opportunity to write about the Cut & Paste - Berlin.
I was there last week to see this uncommon format of event, which can be also considered a "Design Sport", haha. The cut and paste is basically a competition between designers who applied for 3 categories, 2D, 3D and Motion graphics. Except by the final results, the 2D and 3D are much more interesting, because the contestants must produce their works by a given concept in 15 minutes, and in front of everybody who is watching!
Well, I went to there to learn something about animation, which basically didn't happen, but in other hand now I am convinced that is possible to make extremely fast jobs and obtain some considerable good results at the end. The following pictures show a little bit of the event, I ask special attention to the last one, which was the most impressive thing at the night, a guy modeling an "academy perfect" fat guy in 15 minutes using z-brush and 3ds max!
People waiting for the beginning.

The stage of the chalenges

This picture was taken after 10 minutes from the beginning of the 3D competition.
Scares me.

Weel, more information and pictures about the event you can find at the following URL:
Take a look! Maybe there will be on also in your city :D

Well, about the main subject of this Blog, the animation that I am directing and producing, I can say that the last tasks done was script's correction and also the 19 new frames for the storyboard, which are much better now then was before, I'll post one frame to you guys take a look.
Now it's being much easier to work because when I went to Berlin, I also took my scanner which was in my friends house since I moved to Hamburg.

OK folks, This is what I got for today. Next post will be more trilling, I am almost at the end of the "Directors Interpretation" and this week I had a conversation with a college from the post production company of Markenfilm Group, Infected. Now I am more confident to talk about methodology and starting sharing some useful information with people who wants to work in the CGI Motion Graphics area.

Drastic changes

Well, it passed 10 days since the last post and, well, the project changed a lot!
As the previsions said, I started some steps deeper steps of the pre-production (like sketching and photoshoping concepts), but then, I saw that I wasn't comfortable with the way where to the whole thing was going.
The screenplay and the storyboard are okay, still keeping a story which I consider deep enough to be interesting, but, well, the message was too childly, too happy! Damn, those felling deviate the animation for a direction that once I would like, but now I am not feeling really comfortable with it.

So, I reviewed my last design and photography jobs to see what kind of design are truly myself. I found the answer and tried to translate to some concept arts. At that moment I saw how strange is when a designer, which strict visual and symbolical studies think a screenplay. I prefer to express my ideas with images, not with text, hehe. If you see the screenplay of the animation, it looks like a lot of notes put together and with some connective prepositions. Well, let`s see how it'll end :)

Now, I pretend to follow a language which is more symbolical and meaningful, using some original and ironic graphic elements. Take a look over the actual Blog's banner, you can see a photo-montage which translate the general idea about how the scenery will looks like, and I am posting also now two concepts for the male character, but those, of course, still needing much more work.

Well, thanks for reading, this always makes me feel more inspired to proceed the workful task.
Next post, which I hope do at the weekend, I'll upload some photos and a short resume about the Berlin's Cut&Paste 2010, which fortunately I went last week :D

Best Regards

Cool chameleon

Well, the things are going faster now, iei!
I got almost all the footage that I need for the mood-boards and with good perspectives I can start the production of the animation yet in the end of November!
I found a very nice illustration made by the artist Gregor Corsic and I want to share it with you!

This illustration was made almost with the same concept of a commercial made last year in the company that I'm now working. It is one of my favorites advertising movies. (I have strong reasons to believe that the final scene was recording in the place that we use to do our lunch pick nicks, ehhe, gotta ask someone Monday).
